A quick look at a new process I used for this:
All of a sudden I became really intrigued with mermaids and really needed to paint one.
Some symbolism of the mermaid that I really connected with: Letting our hearts and passion overrule the analytical mind, Sometimes the stuff we are attracted to doesn't have to make sense, independence, perfect timing to create magic---to read the full symbolism please visit this page where I got the info: What's Your Sign? - Mermaid Symbolism
Also, can you see the gorilla (it's above the mermaid's head)? It really freaked me out because I didn't mean for it to be there and it's kind of creepy. ;A; I still don't quite understand what THAT means.
GOAL: I had a really specific goal with this painting, and that was to create a dynamic composition utilizing color and value.
I feel like my work has been weak in this area and sought to improve it. I noticed that in smaller pieces like ATCs where I more easily thought of the piece as a whole and had a limited palette good, balanced compositions came about accidentally, like in these pieces: (for the group one, the one on the far right)
Anyway so I tried really hard to achieve good balance and a sense of flow, I didn't want the eye to get trapped in any one place but to keep moving continuously around the picture.
I feel like I succeeded in this, but I'd love some input. I feel like this is one of my best pieces to date and I'd love a heartfelt critique!
